Rules and Regulations

ANKC Guidelines & Agility Rules

Members are expected to be familiar with the ANKC Agility Safety Guidelines. Copies of this document, along with the ANKC Agility & Jumping Rules, are available at the club or can be downloaded from the Agility SA website.

Training Rules & Expectations

General Safety

  • Dogs may not wear slip collars or any attachments that could catch on equipment.

  • Training is undertaken at the dog and handler’s own risk, although all due care is taken by the club.

  • Equipment must not be used without the permission of an Instructor.

  • All courses must be run in numerical order.

  • Instructors may ask a handler to leave the training area if their actions place a dog at risk.

Dog Eligibility

  • Puppies may begin Puppy Foundation Skills once fully vaccinated.

  • Dogs must be 12 months of age before beginning full agility training to ensure their growth plates have closed and they are physically ready for the demands of agility.

  • Dogs must be assessed as fit to train by an Instructor on behalf of the Head Instructor.

  • Dogs must be under effective control at all times.

  • Dogs must have basic obedience skills including especially recall and wait (with the exception of puppies)

  • No dog may be off‑lead in the training area without Instructor permission.

  • Dogs are not permitted on to use the equipment without an instructors supervision and guidance

  • Bitches in heat are not permitted to train at the club

Health Requirements

  • Dogs suspected of having, or exposed to, an infectious or contagious disease (e.g., Parvovirus, Kennel Cough) may not train for five weeks from the date of infection or exposure.

  • Owners must remove all dog droppings immediately.

Membership Requirements

  • Membership badges must be worn during all training sessions.

  • Vaccination certificates must be sighted by the Membership Officer within one month of joining or renewing membership.

Collar Requirements

  • Only fixed flat collars may be worn during agility training.

  • Slip collars, restricted slip collars, check chains, head halters, and body harnesses are not permitted.
